Supporting ALS Patients and Their Families
Project Main Street began in 2006 when Tim Sheehy, age 38, was living with ALS. Tim’s friends from their hometown Roosevelt Island, NY, had the desire to help Tim and his young family by organizing a fundraiser. Though hesitant to accept charity, Tim agreed to the fundraiser as long as his friends would commit to working with him to form a true 501c3. Tim saw the need for practical financial help for care when an individual is diagnosed with ALS-and Project Main Street was born. To this day, Project Main Street is one of the only ALS organizations that provides unrestricted financial grants to people living with ALS.
Tim Sheehy was an inspiring, creative and empathetic person. Though we lost Tim to ALS in 2007, the Project Main Street team remains committed to fulfilling his vision: Until there is a Cure for ALS there is Care.
Our Mission
At Project Main Street, our mission is to create a supportive community for individuals and families affected by ALS. We strive to provide essential resources, raise awareness, and foster a network of care and compassion.
Community-Driven Approach
Project Main Street is built on the belief that neighbors helping neighbors can create lasting change. Our events and grant program are designed to engage the community in meaningful ways, ensuring that no one faces ALS alone.
