Welcome To Project Main St.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. No cure has yet been found for ALS. About 10 percent of those individuals with ALS survive for 10 or more years. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals afflicted with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and their families by lessening the financial burden associated with this devastating disease.
Inspiration
The goal of this event is to raise money in the fight against ALS as inspired by Tim Sheehy. Tim fought a courageous battle against ALS before his passing in 2007; and like Steve Gleason, he saw the need to help those living with ALS by providing care. He created a 501(c)3 – Project Main St. that raised more than $1 million to this mission from 2006-2017. We are fortunate Project Main St. now continues this mission in a partnership with Team Gleason. Team Gleason is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded by former NFL player, Steve Gleason. After being diagnosed with ALS in 2011, Steve founded Team Gleason, an organization focused on providing an immediate impact to people living with ALS through innovative technology, adventures, equipment and care services. With the funds raised last year, Project Main St. & Team Gleason distributed 24 grants providing direct financial assistance covering the cost of home healthcare, medical and insurance expenses and home upgrades for wheelchair accessibility. Also provided 32 communication device copays, 13 portable power wheelchairs and sent 7 families on adventures.
